The Natural Way to Draw
“There is only one right way to draw and that is a perfectly natural way. It has nothing to do with artifice or technique. It has nothing to do with aesthetics or conception. It has only to do with the act of correct observation, and by that I mean a physical contact with all sorts of objects through all the senses”
Peter A. Juley
My impulse to draw is as natural as it is to speak. Learning to draw is a process by which inspiration works. I practice for improvement and follow Kimon Nicolaides unique and concrete system of art presented in his book, The Natural Way to Draw. Attending ‘life drawing’ once a fortnight is part of the practice. A group of us get together with a life model from Auckland for a two hour session. This winter day in a beautiful country home was a great setting to create.
The drawing here is from eye contact with the model in a 20 minute pose. I used ink pen for outline, black ink and gold calligraphy ink to create this work. Acid free paper and sealed with acid free fixative. Work is 40 x 30cms.
